Costa del Sol

Many of the “public courses” on the Costa del Sol are over played, over rated and over priced … of course this only our opinion. We have played a number of courses both close to the coast and a little further inland. “Public courses” mostly also have members but their main objective is to attract green fees through “pay and play”.

We can remember playing Miraflores, Mijas, Lauro and Anoreta. All were adequate but not of the standard you would expect in the UK for a similar green fee. Typical green fees were 70 to 90 Euros each back in 2002, which may or may not include the cost of buggy, but special offers are now much more prevalent in the current economic climate. I spotted one on the Anoreta Golf web site which was 90 Euros for 2 green fees and a buggy, considerably more reasonable than a few years ago. A lot of the courses are set amongst golf complexes and can have long green to tee runs so, in most cases, it advisable to use a buggy.

Golf prices on the Costa hit “the wall” about 3 seasons ago and, at worst, have not increased. I have noticed a few have reduced their green fees, particularly in the summer which is their low season. It is also possible at times to get “specials” which usually are for 2 golfers and the buggy included at somewhere around the 120 Euros mark … these are much more readily available in the summer.

Booking is essential on all the courses on the Costa del Sol. There are too many courses to mention all their details here but any tourist information site will have brochures advertising Cost del Sol golf courses.
